ENG 482: American literature, 1800-1865

TRANSATLANTIC GOTHIC

Last updated on Aug 5, 2020

Welcome to the main landing page for my Summer B course on nineteenth-century Gothic literature!

Given that this course will be taught online, I am using this web page as the central place where you can find video embeds and links to the syllabus and the other online tools that we will be using. Please stop by for regular updates over the next two weeks.

Most of the reading will be available as downloadable .pdfs, but I am requiring the purchase of two novels. You can find those details here.

Please know that during this term I will work with you individually to make this course a rewarding experience but also a manageable one during these unprecedented and challenging times.

Best,

Professor Funchion

ENROLLED Students:

Once you are signed into the class as an enrolled student you can access the following areas:

required books

REQUIRED TEXTBOOKS

I have found it increasingly difficult to locate the correct editions on Amazon. Shipping is also often delayed. You can get both books direct from Oxford University Press for around $22.00 total (includes shipping). Order soon, however, as it may take several days for them to arrive.

BEWARE!: BE SURE TO ACQUIRE THE 1818 VERSION OF FRANKENSTEIN

(THERE ARE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THIS TEXT).
